Ink 48 Hotel New-york, New-york, United-states

Spectacular rooftop, great rooms, good location and decent service. Free wine hour, yoga mats & bikes.

We chose to stay at the Kimpton Ink 48 for it’s location, free wi fi for loyalty members, the wine hour that I think I have been pretty transparent about as a reason on its own to stay at the Kimptons and most impressively for its amazing rooftop bar and spectacular view.

There were some bumps in the reservation and check in process regarding the rate and room type but it was mostly ironed out to our satisfaction and we found a beautiful bottle of wine and a birthday cake for moi in our room.  The rooms were stylish and had everything at hand that one might need.  These are definitely rooms for couples as opposed to a couple of buddies traveling together—the soaker tub is in the middle of the room and the shower and toilet stalls have glass doors.  To be fair, the toilet one  is frosted.  But let’s just say if you don’t want your traveling companion watching you shave your legs this might not be the place for you.  We were starving when we arrived and were waiting on friends to join us so took our chances with the onsite restaurant Print, I had the seasonal pumpkin ravioli and hubs had a killer grilled cheese.  The service was attentive though a bit humorless- at one point after I had taken a big bite of my husband’s sandwich while he was on a call (that will teach you to work on my birthday) he joked to the waiter that his sandwich was broken because it had a bite out of it.  The waiter looked panicked and offered to take it back and get him a new one.

We took in the wine hour which was in the spa lobby that night (strange but it was free wine).  One thing that makes no sense and isn’t guest friendly at all is that since there is a separate operator for the rooftop Press lounge you cannot take drinks from the hotel up there and you cannot take a drink from the roof to somewhere else in the hotel without some skinny chick in black chasing you down like you lifted her Prada handbag- I actually had a glass of champagne torn from my hands mid sip as I got on the elevator (Oh the horror).

With the exception of the one girl who checked us in,  we met with really great service from the front desk staff.  Great recommendations for late late night drinks and an oh-so-welcome Bloody Mary for the morning after the night before.

The rooftop view is unparalleled in the city. Good location in Hell's Kitchen, healthy walk to theaters, the Highline and restaurants. Pet friendly with a free hosted wine hour every night. Has yoga mats, umbrellas and bikes available for guest use gratis. Don't bother paying for an upgraded room, the basic is lovely and since you are in NYC you shouldn't be in it much anyway.
