Historic Walking Tour of the Garden District New-orleans, Louisiana, United-states

A beautiful way to see and learn about the Garden District, its history, and its residents.

Images of the Garden District of New Orleans have come to symbolize Southern gentility, class and hospitality. This tour takes you through the Garden District Cemetery, and the official Garden District which is actually quite small.  The homes in this community are the stars and one gets the sense that the houses own their people, rather than the other way around.  The cost of maintaining these homes is often far more than what their value will ultimately be.

The owners of the Garden District homes are much more the stewards of the architecture and history of this amazing place more than they are simply residents.

The tour brings you to the homes of John Goodman, Sandra Bullock and the seasoned denizens of the city.  History here is told very much through the style and architecture of the community – you get a sense of the roles within the family, the public and private spaces of the home and the true hardship that was required to carve out “civilization” in a climate that was often very hostile to human habitation.

This tour is well worth the time and a great value.

Try and go on a weekday or Saturday as many of the Garden District businesses are closed Sundays.

You can take the streetcar to and from but give yourself plenty of time to get there.
