For once, the most convenient option is also the best. The Epicurean is quite literally steps away from Bern’s Steakhouse and has managed to make the often difficult task of departing Bern’s gracefully a simple walk across the street. Run by Marriott as part of the chain’s Autograph collection, The Epicurean is a cool and fresh boutique hotel with welcoming staff who are eager to make your stay everything it can be. The lobby contains Bern’s Fine Wines & Spirits (yes, that Bern’s http://www.bernsfinewines.com/) as well as a culinary theater where classes and workshops related to all things food and wine are held. There is also a bar with overflow seating as well as the hotel’s on-premise restaurant, Elevage. Additionally, there is another bar, EDGE, located on the hotel’s fourth floor which features sweeping south Tampa views and is perfect for a pre or post-Bern’s cocktail, if you are still standing.
The hotel opened in early 2014, and has been maintained well to still give that “brand-new” feeling. Guestrooms are comfortable and the modern, rough-hewn farmhouse style of the hotel’s public areas continues into the guest accommodations. The showers are roomy and feature both standard and overhead water sources. Extensive minibar selections also feature half bottles of good wine, so no need to fear running out at an inopportune moment.
Also on property are the Spa as well as a true patisserie, Chocolate Pi (http://www.sweetchocolatepi.com/) and both are worth a visit if you are so inclined.
I love a good boutique hotel and The Epicurean is a premier example of how a big chain can do it well.
