When invited to brunch at La Gloutonnerie in South Beach I knew we were in for a groaner and wore a skirt with a stretchy waist band. I mean really, the place is literally translated as “The Gluttony”, or “Piggishness.”
Located in the Southernmost part of South Beach in a beautiful Art Deco building…La Gloutonnerie lived up to it’s name and, for the most part, it’s price tag. At $55 per person it isn’t a cheap brunch, rather it is an EVENT. The mimosas and bellinis are free poured and the cappuccinos are perfection but the sheer quality, selection and amount of food that is available for the brunch buffet is truly astounding. The carving station, omelette station, an amazing salad bar along with oysters, lobster, prawns….on and on and on. It’s a 3 plate minimum before you even get to the desserts. And these desserts are so so pretty AND they taste good which usually doesn’t happen. It’s a hefty pricetag to match the hefty weight gain you will put on from one meal but if you are looking for an over the top splash out experience this is the place.
Ask to be seated outside if the weather allows and remember that the valet parking is not included so get some cash to pay on your way out or park on the street if you can find it.
