In a group of low slung, previously creepy warehouse buildings next to the tracks and just north of downtown you will find the bustling creative community of Flagler Arts & Technology Village (AKA FAT Village).
There are so many things that are cool about this little strip of nowhere–mostly that it is bootstrapping itself into becoming a whole lot of somewhere.
Start with the FAT Village Artwalk on the last Saturday of every month. All of the local businesses open up their doors to show you what they are up to. They serve wine, there is live music, a unique curated art exhibit and an outdoor night market. Sometimes there will be a concert or a film going on and there will be food trucks. The event itself is free, and you can easily score a couple of adult beverages. Do yourself a favor and buy something from one of the vendors or artists.
We have brought our kids on a regular basis and have never had any issues, the crowd is a mix of hipsters in skinny jeans with interesting facial hair and docker wearing account executives. You will find your tribe here somewhere.
Check out the FAT Village website for other special events and offerings that are going on all year round.
