Beano’s Cabin is quite possibly, the “other” happiest place on Earth. Our whole family looks forward to this dinner that has become our annual Christmas present to ourselves. Located atop Beaver Creek mountain, the only way up is to take an open air sleigh ride. The drive up will be entertaining, as the guide will regal you with the history of Beano’s Cabin (named after the former resident, not the stomach pill) and Beaver Creek trivia. It will also be cold, so do make use of the blankets and jackets they have on board. Once welcomed inside, you are escorted to a small lobby with a roaring fireplace and given warm slippers for each member of your family. Nice touch.
The food is really why you are here though. They change their menu seasonally and what we love is that they showcase the flavors of Colorado. On our most recent trip we had duck neck ravioli foie gras, elk osso bucco, fried rabbit and wood grilled pork tenderloin. Other dishes on the menu are less adventurous, but equally flavorful. Dessert here is part of the deal, however, we’ve started saying no to the chocolate molten cake and requesting the house made ice cream instead. Usually, they have the basic flavors (strawberry, vanilla & chocolate) and then one exotic one that you should insist upon having.
Always a 5 course meal, we save room all day for course after course of deliciousness that we won’t want to put down. Then stuffed and armed with To-Go boxes, we are ready for the star filled quiet sleigh ride down the mountain. Perfect way to end the night.
