The Silfra Snorkeling & Lava Caving Tour is a great combination tour for those who want to be pushed outside their comfort zone while in Iceland!
On this trip you will get to snorkel through one of the world’s most fantastic snorkel and dive sites, Silfra, as well as go hiking through a lava tube that was created thousands of years ago by a river of red glowing lava.
When I signed up for this tour I had a misconception of what snorkeling would entail. I thought bikini, wet suit and thermal water…boy was I wrong! Let me take this opportunity to clarify what it means to go snorkeling in Glacier fed water. It means cold and it means layers! Wear long underwear, wool socks and a long sleeve tight shirt. Over top of that you will wear a warm suit and a then a super tight restrictive dry suit! This is probably the most unconfortable and claustrophobic I have ever been in my life but if you are comfortable in water that feeling will quickly disappear as soon as you submerge your head into the crystal clear waters of Silfra plus you can brag to all your friends that you snorkeled in glacier waters and survived!
Tip: Bring a change of clothing as the dry suit may leak.
