At this comfortable café by the lake, locals and commuters alike enjoy bird-friendly (sustainable, Rainforest Alliance, organic and/or fair trade) drip coffee and espresso, with organic milk, all-natural treats and a tiny menu of soup and sandwiches. Owners Madeleine and David gave up corporate careers to create a thriving, ethical, coffee-roasting business. The results: delicious, high quality coffee beverages from carefully-roasted single origin beans and blends sustainably sourced from around the world.
The best latte in Etobicoke still costs only $3.40 for a small size, which includes 2 shots of house-roasted espresso blend and choice of organic milks. (4 shots come standard in large and extra-large espresso-based drinks.) Barista talent varies wildly; one day, there’s carefully-poured latte art by Paula; the next, another barista dumps too-hot milk on top of a promising start. Try the breakfast cookie for a hand-held take on morning oatmeal. 8 tables (some with armchairs, some with church pews), free wi-fi. Take your coffee to go and enjoy the lake wildlife, incredible view, and awesome nautical-themed children’s playground just behind the café. Mimico’s Passenger pigeon has been extinct for a century, but Birds & Beans will ensure the safety of many songbirds (and the lakefront park) for generations to come.

Our Sustainable Offerings
We were the first company in Canada to offer certified Bird Friendly® coffee. Only Bird Friendly certified coffee is guaranteed to provide wintering habitat for our migratory songbirds and other wildlife. We challenge all roasters to offer certified Bird Friendly coffee, all food service contractors to require certified Bird Friendly coffee, and all consumers to demand Bird Friendly coffee. If we all did, the future of our songbirds would be secured.
Our Coffees are either certified organic or are Rainforest Alliance certified.
Our Coffees are either certified fairly traded by Fair Trade USA or the Rainforest Alliance or are grown on inellagible family farms receiving fair trade prices or better.
