The Belmond Charleston Place is at the epicenter of the Historical District. It’s across the street from the public market, walking distance to some of the best restaurants and the jumping off point for great walking and carriage tours. The restaurants at the hotel are destinations on their own and the spa is solid. The rooms are elegant, if small, and the service -whether it is for extra bedding, forgotten toiletries or information about the local area- is impeccable. The first floor is also host to a number of quality retail shops where you are not stuck buying an “I love Charleston” T-shirt if you have lost luggage or need to fill in a gap in your packing.
The hotel is pricey and not particularly family friendly in that the rooms that allegedly accommodate 4 are cramped, with 2 double beds instead of Queens. You also cannot get a cot for any room nor would there be any real place to put it if you could. Our kids did love the swimming pool with its retractable roof to deal with whatever weather happened to be prevailing that day.
This hotel is the perfect option for a couple or a girls’ weekend away.
