Mezzo is new to downtown Pittsburgh and is the last of the new Sienna Mercato restaurants. It shares a building with its sister restaurants, Il Tetto and Emporio. This is my favorite of three newer restaurants, although my favorite from this restaurant group still remains the first spot, just a few blocks away from Sienna Mercato, Sienna Sulla Piazza.
I have visited Sienna Mercato twice now and was equally impressed both times. The space is absolutely beautiful and will take you right out of Pittsburgh, but yet still has that industrial feeling to make it right at home in the Steel City.
The food was excellent, a must have were the mussels that had an absolutely amazing to die for alla vodka sauce that I could not stop eating. The pizza is also fantastic. The prices are also very reasonable for the scale of restaurant and you have a ton of choices on the menu. The service was also excellent each time I’ve been there.
Note that they do not take reservations, so I could imagine on a Friday or Saturday it may be hard to get a table. I was lucky to get there right as they opened to grab a table both times, but thats early at 4pm. You could always put your name in and head upstairs to Il Tetto for a drink in the rooftop garden while you wait.
