Look. You’re already visiting Times Square and marveling at the giant screens. And if you have kids with you they are mezmerized by the sheer audacity of the city. Frankly, if you don’t have kids with you, it is likely YOU are similarly mezmerized. Ellen’s Stardust Diner is the waiting room for Broadway hopefuls masquerading as waitstaff in a two storied diner experience. The food is decent – avoid any of the fancy cocktails, they are frightening. I ordered a Rocky’s Mojito or something like that and it was BLUE. Like a Smurf had been muddled instead of mint in its making. The milkshakes are solid and there is a good selection of beers.
Good burgers and a Rueben sandwich that was yummo. My favorite thing on the menu? You could order mashed potatoes or Mac And Cheese that comes in a bacon bowl. Yup. Bacon.
While you are eating there is a non stop show of solos, duets and ensemble performances with songs from your favorite Broadway shows, the American songbook and rock classics. Our kids loved it…and frankly so did we. It might have been cheesy but at least the cheese was on top of potatoes served in a bacon bowl.
We got there shortly before 5 and had no problem getting a table but by 5:30 it was packed with pre theater dinner guests. They don’t take reservations so plan accordingly.
