One of the things I love most about New Orleans is the plethora of neighborhood bars, where there isn’t a tourist in sight but there are cheap drinks and killer music. In fact, in these places they might punch you in the face if you used the word ‘plethora’. Vaughan’s is one of those places. Kermit Ruffins played there on Thursday nights for years and would take a break to serve BBQ and beans and rice. Now there is always solid live music on Thursday nights. Check on other nights for what is going on at Vaughan’s.
Off the beaten track if you are staying in the Quarter you will need to hop in a taxi to head out to Vaughan’s or take a very healthy long walk through poorly lit streets to the 9th Ward. We have done it a number of times, always in a group, and always with no problem.
