I have an avid interest in urban development, in art and in really good food. This neighborhood brings everything together in a perfect way. Conceived of by the late great urban rejuvenation genius, Tony Goldsman, this was nothing but a scary collection of single story warehouses. Windowless, concrete boxes and (as a resident Miamian tells me, sidewalks littered with bullet casings…seems dramatic but). By building two great anchor restaurants (Wynwood Kitchen & Grill and Joey’s Caffe) – flanking them on either side of a public access art park, and renting space to artists and galleries on the cheap, there is now a “THERE” there, in Wynwood. With the addition of shops ans other restaurants this is a great destination. Go for the art, stay for the food. Or vice versa. There are many events in this neighborhood for Art Basel and otherwise so check the website before you go.

This is a case of someone building something from nothing---or something from something scary. Very cool free activity for all ages.
