Quietly nestled in a residential beach community, Lago Mar Resort & Club is a hidden gem, especially for families in the landscape of Fort Lauderdale beach hotels. The resort itself features a giant private beach that is only open to hotel guests, club members and the residents of neighboring condos and townhomes, which can be a blessing as the main part of Fort Lauderdale Beach (about 1 mile north and across an inlet) can be a bit of a sideshow as it has not entirely shed it raucous Spring Break image of the past. There are also 2 pools and the main pool is a bit on the shallow side (no more than 5 feet deep), making it perfect for families.
Rooms are comfortable and the one-bedroom suite offers plenty of space for a small family or a couple that likes to spread out a bit.
In addition to the main dining room which offers three meals each day, The Promenade Bar serves lighter fare and cocktails beginning around 11:30 each morning through dinner hours. There is also a small grille-restaurant located halfway down to the beach as well as The Soda Shop, which serves breakfast as well as an all-day menu.
On-site activities include tennis, shuffleboard (yes, shuffleboard), a giant chess board with 2-foot-tall pieces, ping pong and a nine-hole mini golf course. There is also a decent-sized playground in the sand for the kids and there are several hammocks for that midday snooze. Complimentary beach chairs are available and you may also rent an umbrella and chair setup for an additional fee.
Lago Mar Resort & Club is an ideal for an un-fussy, old Florida beach vacation, whether with a family or with friends.
