Scottsdale has some amazing resorts. You can’t help but build big when you have expanses of red rock canyons, sandy buttes, and big, beautiful cotton candy sunsets. I’ve stayed at a few of the big daddy grand resorts and certainly enjoyed the sprawl of it all, but one of my favorite spots is certainly the smaller and more intimate Royal Palms Resort – a hacienda-styled “boutique” hotel with tucked away gardens and courtyards and lush groves in a 66-room resort. Nestled amidst the bubbling fountains and cobblestone walkways is the Alvadora Spa, an oasis of tranquility that will leave you rested and at peace.
Unlike many of the sleek and shiny mega spas you may encounter in the Phoenix area, the Alvadora spa has cozy rooms that beautifully blend the feel of a Spanish Villa with the tones of the Southwest. The eight treatment rooms are beautifully decorated, and there are many spots to put up your feet, either in the shade or by a fire during the chillier desert nights.
Get a massage in one of the rooms where the shutters open onto Camelback Mountain, hearing the birds in the heat of the afternoon, where afterwards you may take a private shower on the outdoor balcony under blue skies. You’ll be transformed.
