For Torontonians, the name Royal York Hotel implies railway hotel grandeur typical of the Fairmont chain. However, the original Royal York is a similarly sumptuous affair, with an impressive facade and perfect location directly attached to the lovely train station. Regrettably, I had only a single room on my recent visit. On the plus side, the bathroom was staggeringly large, and the ceilings were surely 12 feet tall. Everything was at it should be: toiletries were decent, food at the restaurant was quite good, and wifi was thrown in (quite unexpectedly). Breakfast was vastly over-priced (15 quid), particularly for a Canadian travelling in times of low oil prices (and commensurately unfavourable exchange rates).
