Basilique Du Sacre Coeur Paris, Ile-de-france, France

A beautiful and ethereal experience at the top of Montmartre.

This church was built as an act of contrition.  It was consecrated in 1919 and there has been a continual prayer of adoration since.  No matter when you go, the soothing murmur of the prayers resonates in this beautiful church. You can walk up the 234 step spiral staircase for a small fee and have one of the best views in Paris- seeing almost 30 km.

You can take the Metro to the station in the heart of Montmartre then climb the steps to the church – it will burn off the pain du chocolat and croissant you have been inhaling since you got to Paris-ya I know.

Don’t get taken advantage of by the many pickpockets, charlatans and tricksters that hangout on the square trying to coax/trick money out of unwitting tourists with sketches and string tricks.  Tell them no, and keep moving to avoid an argument about owing them money for some obscure reason. Yell at them if need be…embrace your inner evil tourist.  Then go and make a donation at the church built as an act of contrition, seems apropos non?
