Skip the menu and take my advice: bring a date, order one platter of charcuterie ($11) and two wood-fired pizzas ($12-16), along with a bottle of red (sadly, this place doesn’t live up to its name with respect to wines.) Ask for the jar of house-made peperoncini on the side.
Pizza-maker Mir (always in a plain white t-shirt), now a familiar fixture behind the piles of chopped wood, pulls out some of the best blistered crusts in the GTA. Yes, better even than those VPN DOP acronym-laden “authentic” Neapolitan pizzerias with their shipped-from-Italy high-temperature ovens and their imported tomatoes. Chef Rob’s pizza recipe is impressive; less so, his pastas and salads.
This is a perfect Date Night destination restaurant – good value, romantic atmosphere (candlelit, a spacious converted bank), and decent service. No reservations necessary — though once word gets out about this gem in New Toronto, you will want to call ahead. Free parking on the side street.
